Welcome!

About me: I was born and raised in Sandy, Utah. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of the times I spent playing outside – roller skating, building forts in empty lots, making mud pies and fairy gardens, chasing butterflies and most importantly, watching my parents cultivate and nurture a beautiful garden. I had absolutely no desire to mow or weed or till or fertilize or rake; however, I loved to reap all the rewards like tumbling across a freshly mowed lawn, gobbling juicy strawberries and raw carrots as fast as I could until my tummy ached, making bridal bouquets for my dolls out of lilac and snowball bush blossoms, and climbing our beloved cherry tree. I’ll never forget the time my mom plucked a bright red snapdragon and showed me how they could talk. I was mesmerized. To me, the garden was a magical and wondrous place to play and explore through every season. (cont.)

It wasn’t until I was a young mother and homeowner that I truly understood all the time, dedication and hard work it takes to care for a yard. My ambition started small – plant a few petunias and veggies and learn how to properly mow a lawn. These small steps turned into a life-long passion. After the birth of my third daughter, I took the master gardener course offered through our local county extension office. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn from the local gardening gurus of the Wasatch Front. This knowledge I gained made it possible for me to design and plant nearly all of my own garden spaces when we built our new home (with the help of my husband who is in the sprinkler business.)
Eighteen years later, I’m now the proud mother of 4 beautiful daughters, 3 mischievous cats, 2 well-used Felco pruners, 1 old blue French watering can, 60 rose bushes and countless perennials. With a huge cutting garden, I taught myself floral design, and one of the greatest joys in my life is giving flowers arrangements to my friends and neighbors. I also returned to college full time to earn a degree in special education. I’ve taught middle school for 7 years and will begin teaching in a new high school this fall. I recently received an education technology endorsement, which is how I learned about blogging.
I hope you find this gardening blog full of useful information, creative ideas, silliness and inspiration. Thanks to all my family, kindred gardeners and friends who encouraged me to begin this new journey!
